Clip description

Elvis Maginnis (Marcus Graham) is in his office at K for Kleen Dry-cleaning when he gets a call from his new girlfriend Carmen Francis (Belinda McClory). She has shocking news and, despite the misgivings of his employees Stella Kinsella (Alison Whyte) and Reuben Zeus (Travis McMahon), he races to her side.

Curator’s notes

This sequence sets up the episode’s story. As is the series’s habit, Elvis is dragged away from his dry-cleaning to answer a request for assistance – this time coming from his femme fatale girlfriend.

The crime scene evokes film noir and pulp fiction through the location, the lighting and Belinda McClory’s costume and performance. The music from Melbourne band the Dumb Earth also complements the classic femme fatale situation, but as the scene is set in ‘90s Melbourne and offset by dry humour, the overall effect is eccentric and fun.
