'Tell the past of the future they've made'

Original classification rating: G. This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

Mike (Daniel Cordeaux) and Katrin (Rebecca Rigg) arrive on the island, but Katrin is very sick. Mother Teresa (Jeanie Drynan) tells Mike that she knows he comes from the past and that he will have to go back. But Mike no longer wants to return to 1985. Mother Teresa knows better and asks him to pass on a message to the past.

Curator’s notes

What might Mother Teresa mean when she says that the war in Mike’s time somehow affected time and space and things can slip through from the past? The representation of women in this clip is worth looking at, and question of religion is also of interest. Mother Teresa (interesting choice of character name) describes Clan Murray as ‘reverting’ to paganism – what does this mean? And what religion does she and her wise women represent? It is interesting to see how the wise women are presented in comparison to the pagan Murray Clan, particularly in comparison to warrior Katrin.
