Clip description
The Kingsway major crime squad try to make sense of the crime scene, after the groom was gunned down at a wedding. Outside, Harriet Walker (Freya Stafford) speaks to the bride Francesca Decia (Bianca Biasi) while Sophia Marinkovitch (Brooke Satchwell) and Ace (Joe Petruzzi) speak to the other guests. They don’t get very far – everybody claims they were in the toilet and didn’t see anything. Meanwhile, Joe Hill (Peter O’Brien) interviews the venue owner and groom’s uncle, underworld figure Marinade (Michael Denkha), before a tense exchange with policeman Shane Duggan (Rupert Reid).
Curator’s notes
Striking work from director of photography Joseph Pickering is on display here. These contrasts between sparkling ocean views, bright white exteriors and shadowy interiors are a key part of White Collar Blue’s visual style. Pickering also worked with producers Steve Knapman and Kris Wyld on Wildside (1997–99) and East West 101 (2007–11).
As well as setting up the main crime mystery for the episode, this scene extends Hill’s character arc. His ‘bad cop’ policing style, unsympathetic towards underworld figures like Marinade, is all toughness and wit and the scene also allows opportunities for further tension with Duggan, his rival in love.
