Clip description
Margaret Pomeranz reviews Rowan Wood’s feature film Little Fish, his second after his debut sensation The Boys. She uses clips from the film to enhance the review of the storyline and the actors’ performances, who in this case include Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Noni Hazlehurst and Sam Neil.
Curator’s notes
Margaret Pomeranz cleverly crafts the formal review of the film around the footage made available from the promotional reel. There’s just enough of a stunning scene between Lionel (Hugo Weaving) and Tracy’s mother (Noni Hazlehurst) to whet our appetite for a deeply moving storyline with riveting performances.
Margaret and and co-presenter David Stratton’s movie reviews are enhanced by using footage from the film that distribution companies make available to accompany a film’s release. This clip shows how the two presenters have honed their skills to create a very sophisticated review script to accompany the footage, so that we learn something about the storyline and the actors’ performances from the footage. They’re also both adept at not giving the storyline away while managing to discuss a particular film’s style and actor performances.
