A bag of oranges at a funeral education content clip 2

Clip description

The procession of funeral cars comes to a halt because Maggie (Ruth Cracknell) has spied a roadside stall selling really cheap bags of oranges.

Curator’s notes

There’s a wonderful frisson of anticipation as Maggie arrives at the funeral ceremony for her dead brother Andrew, clutching a bag of oranges. And of course we’re not to be denied the comedic moment as a dozen oranges wreak havoc at the graveside.

Writer Geoffrey Atherden is adept at finding the side-splitting humour in a funeral and Maggie’s eccentric and even demented behaviour undermines the seriousness of this event.
