Clip description

In Talbingo, still under construction during the Snowy Mountains Scheme, the process of establishing gardens, lawns and trees, both public and residential, is shown.

Curator’s notes

Prior to the Snowy Mountains Scheme, the old Talbingo was reportedly a beautiful place, located where the Talbingo and Jounama Creeks used to flow. Talbingo Station was the birthplace of Miles Franklin and the object of her affectionate memory in Childhood in Brindabella. With the creation of Jounama Pondage, the new town was built on its foreshores. Shot in 1967, the clip shows the new town, still under construction, with the scheme’s revegetation and garden establishment program enthusiastically implemented.
