Clip description
On a park bench, Charlie (Cynthia Bidencope) and Dolores (Lilian Fetherstonhaugh) bashfully sit beside each other. Charlie takes Dolores’ hand and kisses her before proposing to her. Dolores nods her head in agreement and Charlie’s heart races. They kiss once more and get up to leave, Charlie tripping on his umbrella as they go. Later, the couple emerge from a church and then drive off in a wedding vehicle marked ‘just married’.
Curator’s notes
The first shot in this clip, filmed with a still camera, is brought to life by Charlie’s pulsating excitement, facial expressions and body movements. For an amateur actress in a home movie, this is remarkable characterisation.
The Methodist church in this clip was located along Springdale Road, Killara. A house now stands on the site.
Thanks to the generosity of the rights holders, we are able to offer Charlie and Dolores get married from the home movie A Hero's Reward as a high quality video download.
