Clip description
Robbie (Phil Avalon) takes Sandy (John Jarratt) aside and tells him to loosen up and enjoy his ‘last fling’. Sandy overhears Boo (Steve Bisley) telling Scollop (Mel Gibson) that he’s been with Sandy’s fiancée. Sandy attacks Boo.
Curator’s notes
The central theme of Summer City is male responsibility. Sandy clashes with Robbie and especially Boo because he embraces what they fear – getting married and settling down. Boo’s conversation with Scollop exposes his regard for women only as sex objects. A secret tryst between Boo and Sandy’s girlfriend is finally revealed, setting a train of violence in motion. Two years after their film debuts in Summer City, Mel Gibson and Steve Bisley reunited as Jim Goose and Max Rockatansky in Mad Max (1979).
