Clip description
Dr Barton (Alex Scott) tells Linda (Jacki Kerin) to forget the past. Returning to Montclare, Linda sees a figure at her bedroom window wearing her mother’s red dress. Housekeeper Connie (Gerda Nicolson) says only she and Lance (Charles McCallum) are in the house.
Curator’s notes
In this sequence Linda is confronted by the feeling that two people who are close to her may not be trustworthy. Dr Barton reveals he has distorted the truth about Aunt Rita’s death, and Connie shrugs off what Linda has seen at the window. Linda’s fears and sense of isolation are mirrored in the painting on Dr Barton’s wall – a print of the famous 'Christina’s World’ (1948), by Andrew Wyeth. Klaus Schulze’s music adds urgency and menace to the scene.
