Poker (Richard Wilson) and Blue (Ho Thi Lu) wake Spasm (Sean Kennedy) after they have liberated his skateboard from the ‘confiscated’ cupboard at school. They take off on a two-day skate trip across the city, heading for Beachbowl, the major skateboarding competition. Spasm doesn’t know it, but the break-in at the school caused a fire. The police are now on their trail.
Curator’s notes
These dawn skating scenes are among the best in the film, with a real sense of romance and excitement, akin to the spirit of surfing – except that it’s on tarmac. Note the change in the backgrounds – from giant electrical towers and housing commission streets to high open spaces with great views to the city, offering a sense of possibility and adventure.
