Unexpected guests

This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

A woman serves afternoon tea to her unexpected but appreciative guests. The guests comment on the delicious cheese-topped biscuits she has quickly prepared for them.

Back in the kitchen, the woman demonstrates how easy it is to prepare Kraft Cheddar Cheese as a male voice-over praises its ‘delicious mellow flavour’ and the foil wrapping which keeps the cheese fresh. As the woman puts the cheese slices onto the biscuits and into the grill, the voice-over continues to explain how it melts in a minute and looks appetising and ‘tastes so delicious’. This is confirmed when an anonymous hand snaps up the last two biscuits from the serving tray.

The advertisement ends with a product shot and the voice-over telling viewers that Kraft Cheddar Cheese, with its ‘creamy smooth texture’ is available in food stores everywhere.

Curator’s notes

Interestingly, there are no faces in this advertisement, rather the faceless characters represent a recognisable social occasion amongst a group of friends. Indicative of its time, it is the unidentified housewife who prepares the snacks and entertains her guests with a formal ‘afternoon tea’ in the sitting room.
