Clip description

This cinema advertisement from 1954 shows Bob Gibson and his four-piece ensemble performing Happy Little Vegemites with the Vege-Mites singing group: Anne Edwards, Denise Simpson, Irene O’Brien and Marilyn Taylor. The scene changes to a boy and girl eating Vegemite on bread, then other scenes demonstrating the health benefits of eating Vegemite. The ad ends with the Vege-Mites singing and the intertitle 'Puts a rose in every cheek’.

Marilyn Taylor recalls that the recording was made at 2GB and then filmed at Cinesound Studios at Balmain. All the Vege-Mites attended classes at Thelma Duff’s dance school in Rozelle. Later, Marilyn and her sister Annette formed the Taylor Sisters and performed on a variety of TV music variety shows such as Cafe Continental (1958–61), Teentime and Six O’Clock Rock (1959–62).
