Buzz (Mitch Ambrose) checks out the new girl at the rink. His girlfriend Francine (Shanti Gudgeon) is jealous and calls Susan (Sherie Graham) a ‘daddy’s girl’. When Susan’s dad (Bruce Myles) arrives with a jumper for her, Buzz introduces himself and the gang. Mags and Francine are quite hostile. When Francine offers her a cigarette Susan reluctantly takes it. Only Julio (Paul Wheller) refuses.
Curator’s notes
This clip introduces the setting, the tone of the film, the era (the disco music and clothes certainly help), and the characters, including Susan’s caring father. Susan says very little and the cigarette scene is played out mainly on her nervous face as she waits, watches and listens to what is going on around her, trying to pick up the right cues.
