Clip description
The second round continues as Kelly takes control of the wheel for a puzzle which, when solved, will reveal a common phrase. Host John Burgess gives a running commentary as Kelly spins the wheel. Puzzle solved, Kelly now has prize money to spend.
Curator’s notes
This clip demonstrates the gentle pace of game play, the show’s basic and repetitive format, and the importance of sponsorship through a range of prizes with on-air promotion. The clip also acts as a time capsule for 1990 product and production values as the prizes are displayed through static graphics of the time or live action against a simple studio set. This includes a segment in which two young male models wear the ‘world’s toughest action wear’ while passing a football to each other on fake grass and in front of a cheap beach scene backdrop.
