Clip description
Gavin Sykes (Brett Partridge) and his mate discuss work as they leave the gym. Gavin’s mate Ben (Andrew Hill) suggests Gavin quit the force and join him in his rubbish skip business. They are interrupted by the sound of a couple (Dina Gillespie and Kim Fleming) arguing loudly outside a nearby house. Gavin intervenes, unsuccessfully – and Ben again raises the question of whether he enjoys his job.

This scene is an important part of this episode’s secondary story-line. It’s an example of how the show uses an external situation as a trigger for character development. Gavin’s personal misgivings are mirrored and heightened by the crime he feels unable to prevent.
