Clip description
Veronica (Heli Simpson) secretly plants a noisy pager on Stevie’s (Sophie Bennett) easily spooked horse Comanche. Veronica tests the loyalty of Lisa (Lara Jean Marshall) by letting her in on the plan. Despite the threat of blackmail, Lisa acts without hesitation to tell Carole (Keenan MacWillian) and, together on one horse, they set out to find and warn Stevie.
Curator’s notes
Stablehand and love interest Red O’Malley (played by Nathan Phillips) opens a sequence which introduces the idyllic environment of Pine Hollow Stables – a setting that is in contrast to the intrigue and human drama taking place. The ongoing dynamics of girl politics and the central players are demonstrated here as evil Veronica plots to harm rival Stevie and test her new friendship with Lisa. Child-centred, with adults playing a peripheral role, the stakes are suitably high with Veronica relishing the thought of Stevie’s horse going 'mental’ and blackmailing Lisa with the threat of losing the chance to participate in a special trail ride.
