Linda (Joelene Crnogorac) is shocked to find Andrew (Eamonn Kelly) is now in a wheelchair but then finally understands what has been happening when Andrew leaps into the water to save his father (Peter Bensley) – he has transformed into a merman. Andrew leaves to join his mermaid mother (Cheryle Street) and the mer-people.
Curator’s notes
Sad, romantic and haunting stories of mermaids and mer-people are found around the world in many cultures. In this story, small hints about Andrew’s mysterious mother are there with the photograph of her, but Andrew’s destiny is kept hidden from the audience and from Linda until it is dramatically revealed in this final scene. The angelic choir and the music add to the poignancy of the scene.
