Clip description

The show opening which establishes the exterior of the Espy (Esplanade Hotel) in St Kilda, Melbourne then explores inside the venue finally finding RocKwiz being played in the Gershwin Room. The RocKwiz Orkestra (Peter Luscombe, James Black and Mark Ferris) are introduced along with host Julia Zemiro and resident rock guru, scorekeeper and occasional adjudicator, Brian Nankervis. Four contestants are introduced and asked to talk about the first album they ever bought.

Curator’s notes

This opening sequence sets up the viewing experience as a high-energy live rock trivia quiz show set in an inner-city hotel. The casual and relaxed tone of the show is established by location, banter between hosts, contestants and the live audience. Julia Zemiro says that contestants are ’playing for the sheer fun of it’, and Brian Nankervis reminds the audience that we’re ’here to have a good time, not an accurate one, so get over it’.
