Clip description

The space wizard Galiel’s foolish sidekicks Elgar (Marg Downey) and Moza (Stephen Whittaker) squabble as they wait for Galiel’s orders. In the cave Neri’s loyal protector, Neanda of the Cave Dweller Clan (Doug Tremlett), recovers consciousness after his fall.

Curator’s notes

Marg Downey’s Elgar is a wonderfully wicked and large as life character, and in this episode she is far more interesting than the rather one-dimensional heroine Neri. Elgar and Moza certainly get to have all the fun and the best lines. The parallel ‘I hate gravity’ scenes with Moza hitting the door, and Neanda falling in the cave, also creates some fun.
This clip demonstrates the ways in which animation creates dramatic, comic and fantastic possibilities not achievable in live drama. With the original Ocean Girl Series, Media World producer John Tatoulis describes how they wanted, ‘…to create a whole new universe that couldn’t be made in live-action … and take audiences on a fantastic journey’.
