Clip description
Mike Russ is no newcomer to the show. He’s introduced with a clip from one of the original Inventors programs from 1980, when he was a young man with a bright idea. Twenty years later, he’s still inventing. This time it’s a device to measure the amount of energy an electric appliance is using.
Curator’s notes
This is a good example of how The New Inventors often uses interstitials from the archive to add interest, and incidentally remind us of the illustrious past of the show when it was called The Inventors (1970-1982). Here it’s especially interesting to see a young inventor from the original show who becomes a winner on The New Inventors.
We also see James O’Loghlin’s skill as a presenter, as he seemingly effortlessly leads the inventor through questions that get the information across quickly and clearly, while keeping the show moving quickly to maintain the audience’s interest.
