Clip description
Constable Dee Suzeraine (Jennifer Kent) shows Detective Tessa Vance (Lucy Bell) a digital enlargement of the gorilla mask that murder victim Trevor Parkin was wearing. Meanwhile Detective Steve Hayden (Peter Mochrie) has discovered where the gorilla suit was hired. Tessa and Steve find themselves again at odds in their approach. As Tessa builds up a picture of the dead man’s personality, Steve implies she’s becoming too involved.
Curator’s notes
In this episode – and the series – we see an old-fashioned trail of clues and red herrings meet 'cutting edge’ forensics and technology. This collision is mirrored visually in Owen Williams’s production design and Mark Wareham’s photography. The main office at the police station has a 1930s look and the cinematography and lighting reference film noir – but blue-toned shots of computer screens and forensics labs also project a distinctively 1990s feel.
