A film with extreme violence

Original classification rating: PG. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

David Stratton adds his bit to Margaret’s review. He’s going to give it a high score but he’s annoyed that the film claims to be based on true stories when he insists it’s not. However, what he particularly deplores, and Margaret agrees with him, is the film’s terrible sadism and extreme violence.

Curator’s notes

In this clip we see the critique section of the show. After one of them has given a review – or overview – of the film, providing a synopsis, they then compare notes, as we see here. And in this instance the two are of a fairly like mind. David Stratton expresses his opinion strongly, describing the film as 'thoroughly nasty’ in places. They agree to give the film four stars but we are warned that the violence is extreme and very hard to take.

The director Greg McLean and the actor Cassandra Magrath talk about the reason for this in the interviews that follow the review.
