Clip description
Agnes (Melanie Boomer) finds some old photographs of Justus Zuckermann (Owen Weingott) and his wife with an unknown baby while Martha (Judith Stratford) continues to work her black magic. Strange things happen and when Mr Zuckermann is fatally injured, Martha is triumphant. Dying, he desperately tries to warn his daughter Ada (Christen Cornell) of something.
Curator’s notes
The melodrama is first rate in this clip, starring the wicked housekeeper Martha. The scene with the snake is creepy enough, and then the witch’s brew she concocts from worms, frogs, eyes, and bloody bandages, muttering incantations while watched over by the evil crow goes wonderfully over the top.
