Clip description
Reports of a sea monster spread throughout the world.
Curator’s notes
This sharp piece of satire shows the monster stand in for the fears of whatever nation it is ‘sighted in’, along the way providing a subtle critique of national woes ranging from apartheid to water pollution. Topical satire is Mavis Bramston’s strong point and some of its sketches still look fresh, though not all the references from the time are easy to identify.
