Curator’s notes
This sequence is our first introduction to Lockie and his passion for surfing. From the outset, we enter Lockie’s world via a voice-over thought track as he contemplates and admires the waves, surfboard at the ready. Lockie’s laconic and self-deprecating humour, use of language and the unique setting gives the series a particularly Australian flavour.
Through the soundtrack, use of music and visual surfing montage in this opening episode we share fully in Lockie’s exhilaration and optimism. Director Tony Tilse’s other credits include Underbelly – Series 1 (2008) and Blue Water High (2005–08).
