Clip description

It’s the turn of Holy Cross College contestants Maree, Deborah and Nazife to answer ten questions in one minute.

Curator’s notes

This clip demonstrates the simplicity of the early It’s Academic format and style. The mix of subject areas remain similar to the show’s current incarnation (revived in 2001) with spelling, maths, sport, geography and history topics, although the inclusion of a question about ‘Britain’s heir apparent’ may be seen as a reflection of Australia’s closer relationship with Britain in 1971. In contrast to the current show’s sophisticated set, graphics, lighting, camera, use of music and sound effects, this clip stays focused on the contestants, only cutting away to the host or to a simple graphic of a number sequence to be completed.
