Clip description
Ray (Shane Feeney-Connor) was one of the only survivors of the gas station mass shooting. After convincing him to walk through a police re-creation of the crime scene, Jane Halifax (Rebecca Gibney) is worried about the lapsed alcoholic’s wellbeing. She finds him at the pub. She’s supposed to be helping him, in the guise of psychiatrist, but in the middle of her own meltdown, Halifax becomes his drinking partner for the evening.
Curator’s notes
Roger Simpson’s skill with dialogue is again apparent as this scene segues between darkness and wry humour. Halifax’s dry description of her father’s death in the most clinical, medical terms encapsulates the telemovie’s core theme of struggling with the line between professional and personal identity.
