The opening titles introduce Rikki Chadwick (Cariba Heine), Emma Gilber (Claire Holt) and Cleo Seroti (Phoebe Tonkin) and the main premise of the series, as the friends jump into the water and transform into mermaids. Lewis McCartney (Angus McLaren), teenage scientist and sidekick, also makes an appearance.
Curator’s notes
The catchy title song ‘No Ordinary Girl’ was composed by Danny Beckerman and Ric Formosa with lyrics by Shelley Rosenberg. It is sung here by ARIA award-winning Melbourne singer Kate Alexa (who provides all the songs for series two). The song establishes the upbeat mood of the show and introduces themes of special powers, fearlessness, fantasy and the importance of believing in yourself.
