Clip description
Chrissey and Lindsey Newton live back of Bourke. They’ve battled drought to save their property and now they must battle with Chrissey’s cancer and the lack of rural health services for cancer sufferers.
Curator’s notes
Chrissey and Lindsey are battlers. They are articulate and honest in their account of what they had to face when they closed down their farm and travelled to Sydney in order to have the lifesaving cancer care that Chrissey needed.
Four Corners has found the ideal people to tell the story of the health dilemma for rural people. Matthew Carney shows us a couple standing together to face this life-threatening disease while finding themselves having to close their farm and travel hundreds of kilometres to the alien world of the big city.
The well-filmed sequence of Chrissey with her grandchildren not only gives us a great look at a property on the edge of the desert, but works beautifully in forming an emotional bond between the audience and the subject of the program.
