Cars are not only stolen to be shipped to other countries, they’re also stolen to be stripped for spare parts. The problem for the police and prosecutors is that most car parts are not marked with the vehicle’s identification number.

Chris Masters is one of Australia’s most experienced investigative journalists so when he turns his hand to the car industry, the result is fascinating. He points out the deep suspicion between the many special interest groups, like insurers and smash repairers. It’s no wonder, as he points out, that car crooks are able to work their criminality into the gaps between these often warring parties.
