Clip description
The Vivienne Westwood retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia shows a wonderful collection of more than three decades of one of the most innovative, iconic and influential fashion designers ever and a rare phenomenon – a Brit in a largely European field.
Curator’s notes
Andreas Kronthaler, husband of fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, is interviewed by Fashionista host Lee Lin Chin at the retrospective exhibition of Westwood’s work at the National Gallery of Australia. For much of the clip the screen is split into two or three which is effective in showing the variety of Westwood’s designs. It captures the excitement and sometimes outlandish quality and range of her work. Kronthaler and Lee Lin Chin then appear casually seated within the exhibition before we see Westwood at work in her studio. It’s odd that Westwood herself is not being interviewed but having others speak for her raises her presence (or lack thereof) to almost mythic proportions.
