Fashionista – Vivienne Westwood (2005)

Synopsis

This film records an exhibition of Vivienne Westwood’s fashion designs from over 30 years, which was held at the National Gallery in Canberra in 2005. The exhibition was opened by Westwood’s husband, Andreas Kronthaler, who wears a Westwood-designed suit and speaks admiringly of his wife and her work. Vivienne Westwood herself wasn’t able to be present at the opening.

Curator’s notes

Presenter Lee Lin Chin is a Westwood fan. In fact, her first question to Vivienne Westwood’s husband, is about a long letter Lee Lin Chin wrote to Westwood several years ago. She did not receive a reply although Andreas is at pains to say that Westwood replies to all her fan mail and can’t imagine what happened in this case. He’s the best PR for the company Westwood could possibly have.

Lee Lin Chin is an SBS icon and has been with the multicultural broadcaster since the late 1980s. Her idiosyncratic fashion style and speech mannerisms have made her a much-loved and much-parodied television personality. She was born in Singapore where she began her media career. Her fashion sense and love of designer clothing made her the natural choice as the presenter of Fashionista. She’s a self-confessed fashion junkie. She loves to try on the fashion range of whichever designer she’s featuring and manages to look stunning in most of the outfits. Whether she’s laughing at herself in one of the designer outfits or talking seriously about the business of fashion design, the program is always interesting.
