Clip description
Two of the Doug Anthony All Stars (Tim Ferguson and Richard Fidler) emerge from the rubble after their submarine is blasted into space. The event is reported by Shitsu Tonka Corporation’s newsreader (Khym Lam) in a broadcast that is beamed into the ship.
Curator’s notes
DAAS Kapital’s premise allows fun extensions of the Doug Anthony All Stars’s punk-militant look, from the fake-looking, tacky industrial stage set to the retro communist-meets-cyberpunk stylings of Shitsu Tonka Corporation’s ‘news flashes’. Cheap explosions, cheesy video effects and Nick Hilligos’s animated segments of the creatures that normally live in the depths of the submarine are among the enjoyable visual touches of this clip.
DAAS Kapital was recorded in front of a studio audience and the set and camerawork ramp up the theatrical qualities. The show’s production designer was Des White.
