‘I’m going to have to cut you short …’

Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

The CNNNN news team receive more live reports on the ‘Lunchgate’ saga, including insider interviews and expert opinions.

Curator’s notes

‘Lunchgate’ coverage proceeds in this clip at a cracking pace from breathless reportage to expert opinions to ‘witness’ interviews and so on, cleverly parodying just how much media mileage can be gained from only minimal information. The interview cut short is a running joke throughout the episode, at its funniest when it occurs mid-sentence or before interviewees (Maloney’s work colleagues, for instance) have barely started to respond.

Gaps for fake ad breaks are part of CNNNN’s format. The ad in this sequence takes a satirical dig at media-created news ‘events’, promoting CNNNN retrospectives of ‘Lunchgate’ before the real event has even resolved itself.
