Mr Ten Questions

Original classification rating: M. This clip chosen to be PG

Clip description

Andrew Hansen, as Mr Ten Questions, attends a promotional press conference with Hugh Jackman.

Curator’s notes

The Chaser are in their element at the press conferences, red carpet events and political campaign trails that exist for the benefit of the cameras. By breaching the tacit codes of behaviour followed by both the media and their subjects, they draw attention to the stage-managed nature of these events.

Mr Ten Questions is a regular segment in the Chaser’s War on Everything but the joke doesn’t seem to grow old. Part of the fun is in seeing how both the interviewee and other press react, part in Hansen’s comic delivery and the questions he asks. Here, Hugh Jackman rises to the occasion with humour, and it’s fun to watch his changing reactions as the joke sinks in: initially listening with professional attention, then smiling, raising his eyebrows in surprise, laughing good-naturedly and, finally, delivering a riposte of his own.

Anthony LaPaglia also deserves special mention for successfully answering all ten questions when he was Mr Ten Questions’s target.
