Clip description
Johnno (Damien Walters), is falsely accused of stealing Les’s (Henry Salter) chooks and for his anxious father (John Waters), this is the final straw. He decides it is time to teach Johnno a lesson. Tony (Joe Petruzzi) tries to stand up for Johnno but is ridiculed.
Curator’s notes
This is a confronting scene where Johnno’s father, under pressure from Les, loses his temper again with Johnno. Not listening to Johnno or to the protests of both Johnno’s mother (Michele Fawdon) and Tony, he drags Johnno off to be punished. Appalled, Tony asks ‘Why you not listen to Johnno?’ Amidst the laughter, Les replies ‘Because he’s even harder to understand than you, ya mug!’ The community’s intolerance of both Johnno and Tony is blatant.
