Bob (Gerry Sont) arrives via seaplane to a warm greeting from his girlfriend Sally Wilson (Kerri Sackville). Bob’s arrival is also welcomed by the rest of the Wilson family, including widower Charlie (Grigor Taylor) and his son Greg (Mark Kounnas). Tensions arise between Bob and Sally when Bob takes on the role of debt collector for his father.
Curator’s notes
This sequence introduces the setting for the series – an idyllic island in Queensland only accessible by seaplane or boat. This scene also introduces the central characters in the Wilson family and the budding romance between Bob and Sally. While contemporary dramas for children now usually focus on a central child protagonist and their point of view, this episode centres equally on the adult and young adult characters and the issues affecting them. The children’s point of view comes to the fore more as the series progresses but this sequence, which is fairly typical of the episode, could well lead to the program being considered family as opposed to children’s drama (according to current children’s classification definitions and guidelines).
