Bananas in Pyjamas – Banana Breakfast (1999)
Synopsis
In this story, narrated by Karina Kelly, Bananas in Pyjamas B1 (Ken Radley) and B2 (Nicholas Opolski) decide to make a surprise breakfast for the Teddies, Morgan (Jeremy Scrivener), Amy (Mary-Ann Henshaw) and Lulu (Taylor Owynns). When Rat in a Hat (Shane McNamara) gets involved, the Teddies certainly get a surprise – but it’s not quite what the Bananas intended.
Curator’s notes
This is a very typical Bananas in Pyjamas episode in which a problem arises and is then solved through cooperation and social interaction between the fun-loving characters. Strongly character driven, with the appealing looking heroes – the blue and white-striped B1 and B2, along with their cuddly Teddy friends – each story also follows a very simple and predictable slapstick format. The excited Bananas launch into doing something with great gusto and the best intentions. Naïve and easily influenced, B1 and B2 are also rather disaster prone. When the mischievous Rat in a Hat interferes, the scene is set for a funny fiasco. Of course, a happy ending is an essential ingredient in a preschool TV show. Here, the Teddies quickly forgive the Bananas for the great breakfast in bed disaster and they share a good laugh.
Bananas in Pyjamas was first broadcast on 20 July 1992 on the ABC. It is broadcast regularly on ABC1 and ABC2.
