Bananas in Pyjamas song

Original classification rating: G. This clip chosen to be G

Clip description

This is the animated Bananas in Pyjamas series theme song.

Curator’s notes

This catchy little song and animation is the reason why this television show exists. The song Bananas in Pyjamas was written by Carey Blyton (Enid Blyton’s nephew) in 1967 and was originally picked up by the UK show Play School (1988). Identified as one of the most popular and recognisable songs in the Australian Play School (2008) program, it was chosen to have its own life as a separate costumed live action show starring the life-size B1, B2 and the teddies Morgan, Amy and Lulu.

Bananas in Pyjamas first went to air in 1992. For generations now, this simple but iconic song has been part of the lives of Australian preschoolers and their parents. As such it proved the perfect vehicle for a spin-off children’s show designed with a strong merchandising component. Other than the characters, this opening animated sequence and the song have absolutely nothing to do with the content of the show, where the Bananas are kind and gentle and would never chase the Teddies!
