Clip description

This segment rounds up the program with a list of reminders and instructions for efficient business mail management.

Curator’s notes

This is a final group of messages to the audience – instructions which the corporate client (the Australian Post Office) wanted included, but which the scriptwriter (Fred Schepisi) found it difficult to incorporate in the major scenes of the film.

The seamless inclusion of information – information which can be fragmented in nature or alternatively require detailed explanation – is the principal and perennial challenge for corporate program makers. In this case, the task of imparting the requisite messages and imparting them swiftly, is well handled. A number of the characters Jon Finlayson and Rhonda Finlayson have assumed throughout the film reappear, and some of the theatrical tricks they’ve adopted are reprised. But there’s also a couple of completely new vignettes, including a takeoff of a then well-known television advertisement for a product called Menthoids, to impart advice regarding the packaging of mail with ‘bulky contents’.
