Clip description
The final journey of the New South Wales TPO (Travelling Post Office) is underway. The officers carry out their duties for the last time and talk about their days on the service.
Curator’s notes
As they perform their collection, sorting and distribution duties, Jerry Goddard, Tom Daly and Warren Smith, three of the last remaining TPO officers in Australia, reminisce about their time in the job. They talk about the time when very isolated regional communities used to rely on the mail train service as a vital link to the rest of the country. As communication technologies developed and rural isolation decreased, so too did the volume of mail handled by the TPOs.
