Clip description

The stop-motion animated short Looking for Horses can be viewed here in its entirety. During a summer holiday, two sisters (voiced by Gabrielle Vening and Celesta Vinckier) discover the truth about the marriage of their parents (voiced by Christina Louis and Martin Louis). The short is narrated by the eldest sister, now an adult (voiced by Samantha Stone).

Curator’s notes

Light and texture are both important elements in this stop-motion film. The contrasting textures of the mother’s dress, the rabbit’s fur, the mud and the dry grass are evoked in detail against a backdrop of a vast ‘blazing’ blue sky. The harshness of the light in this alien environment intimates the cruel sharpness of the children’s revelation at the end of the film when they emerge from the flats camouflaged by mud, for the first time seeing through their parents’ emotional camouflage.
