Clip description

Two thieves have climbed into the rich farmer’s house and found the secret basement room full of golden eggs. The thieves steal the eggs by throwing them out the window and then escape. The farmer returns to the room and discovers the theft. Both he and his wife are distraught.

Curator’s notes

This scene illustrates the use of sepia (brown) as a balance to the often very intense stencilled colour scenes in these early Pathé films. It provides continuity in scenes which do not have the splendid theatrical performance elements of the grand transformation and dance sequences.
