Clip description

You can watch the short film Fetch here in its entirety. It tells the story of a man (Matt Day), his date (Rebecca Frith), her dog (Mindy) and how quickly a fledgling romance can progress from awkward to awful.

Curator’s notes

Director of photography Martin McGrath shot Fetch on 35mm and, with Vince Monton, devised a special 'doggy cam’ to capture the movements of Mindy the dog. This involved making a camera lighter by replacing metal bolts with cardboard ones and mounting it to the end of a broomstick that could follow the dog and the ball in unpredictable directions. Look out for the moment where Mindy retrieves the ball from the salad bowl – this is an example of an unplanned shot that occurred accidentally during the shoot.
