Clip description
Pressure mounts for workers Trieu (Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hien), Uncle Le (Hieu Phan), Yen (My Lingh Thi Nguyen) and Linh (Suong Tran) as the day wears on in the garment factory and unexpected mishaps threaten the delivery. Trang (Deborah Le) and Vu (Jazz Ly) get annoyed when braggart Danny (Khoa Do) spends more time flirting with Quy (Thao Le) than he does on work.
Curator’s notes
At this point, dramatic tension starts to build. While the drama comes from the other characters, who seem unaware of their impact on Trang, the focus stays on her perspective. Each obstacle to the day’s garment production is also an obstacle to her chances of getting to her parent-teacher interviews. Deborah Le does a good job with Trang’s helpless, largely silent response to the action.
The focus on Trang’s perspective creates for the audience a changing perception of the other characters, who she – and we – will gradually grow to discover are not quite as oblivious to Trang’s distress as she thinks. In this way, Delivery Day makes a subtle exploration of both childhood perception and family bonds.
Screenwriter Khoa Do is funny in his role as the braggart Danny.
