Clip description
A montage of mostly found images ranging from satellite photos and newsreel footage of A-bomb tests in the desert to clips from The Plains of Heaven (1982), The Back of Beyond (1954) and On Our Selection (1920); male and female voices are mixed with sourced sound and electronic music.
Curator’s notes
Meaning in the clip is contested by the montage of images and voices along gender lines – the female voice questioning, the male voice assertive. This is consistent with the use of gendered voices throughout the film – the female voices more objective, the male voices more subjective or incoherent.
