Curator’s notes
Adam Elliot brings to life a boyhood in the Australian suburbs. The house and picket fence below powerlines, the Hills hoist in the backyard, the boys kicking a football, and Mum selling pies at the ‘footy’, are all quintessentially Australian. Having set the scene, Elliot makes clear his closeness with his elder brother who, though challenged by asthma and a lazy eye, is the more daring of the two.
Elliot followed his trilogy of family short films with the longer, Oscar-winning Harvie Krumpet (2003) and the feature-length Mary and Max (2009).
