Two Day Jag

Clip description

This is an excerpt from 'Two Day Jag’, one of the first jazz recordings of Graeme Bell’s Dixieland Band, from a session in January 1944.

Curator’s notes

Released with 'Swanston St Shamble’, this track refers to a two-day celebration, with the upbeat and lively tone in contrast to the hangover to come! In classic Dixieland style the first verse presents the tune with the full band, with subsequent verses featuring each of the band members soloing in turn. Graeme Bell plays a fine piano solo in the Dixieland style in the second verse, while drums and banjo maintain the rhythm.
