'I Am Woman'

Clip description

This version of Helen Reddy’s iconic hit single and feminist anthem was recorded at Sun West Studio on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Curator’s notes

There is a very polished sound to this, the most famous version of the song. Some of the best session musicians of the day were used, complementing the song’s solid structure and Reddy’s rich voice. The recording builds nicely with the addition of a brass backing from the second chorus and strong back-up vocals.

...keep me down again

Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
