Clip description
This clip shows work inside a tin mining plant, including dredging buckets lifting ore from the bed of the river and local workers operating machinery to separate ore from water.
Curator’s notes
Malaysia and neighbouring Thailand are rich in natural resources such as tin, and the British carried out extensive tin mining and mineral exploration during this period. Due to lack of light, some of the interior shots in this clip are difficult to make out. The amateur nature of home movie footage understandably sometimes results in unevenness in camerawork and image quality.
